Steve McCurry
Steve McCurry is an American photographer who is best known for his portraiture specifically his photo taken in 1984 captioned “Afghan Girl” which originally appeared in the National Geographic magazine. Steve has won many awards for his photography and has even been placed in the Leica Hall of Fame. His career in photography was truly launched when he crossed the Pakistan border so he could snap pictures of the natives just before the Soviet Invasion. He then carried on his travels where he took pictures of many other people around Iran, Iraq and Lebanon. He specifically went during wars to take photos of males, females and children so he could capture the true horror and experiences they were facing and show the Western world. This is what he said about his own work. ‘Most of my images are grounded in people. I look for the unguarded moment, the essential soul peeking out, experience etched on a person’s face. I try to convey what it is like to be that person, a person caught in a broader landscape, that you could call the human condition.’
